Multi-billionaire Elon Musk on Saturday announced the formation of his own political party, named ‘America Party’, following a question he posted on X on the 4th of July.

The question was: “Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system! Should we create the America Party?”

A total 1,248,856 people answered to the question with the results showing that 65.4 percent are in favor and 34.6 percent against.

The following day, Musk posted on the platform:

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!

When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.

Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

The former collaborator of Donald Trump in the US administration as director of DOGE had a heated fallout with the American president after he openly disagreed to Trump’s. Shortly after he hinted at forming his own party.

On Saturday he made the announcement of the America Party, stating that Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (the budget bill) will lead the US to bankruptcy. He further accused both Republicans and Democrats of operating as a single party mechanism against the interests of the American citizens.

Musk quotes ancient Greek general

Musk announced that his party will contest in the 2026 mid-terms. The Tesla CEO further revealed that the strategy he will use to break the uni-party system mechanism will be the same as the one used by the ancient Greek general from Thebes, Epaminondas, against the Spartan army in the Battle of Leuctra in 371 BCE.

“The way we’re going to crack the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility at Leuctra: Extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield,” Musk noted on X.

Musk framed the Republican-Democrat uni-party as Sparta, a dominant but flawed system, and his party as Thebes, a smaller force aiming to disrupt the political establishment.

Asked what was the main reason that made him drastically change his stance towards President Trump, Musk replied: “The increase in the deficit from an already insane amount of 2 trillion dollars under (the) Biden administration to 2.5 trillion dollars. This will bankrupt the country.”

An X user asked Musk when he plans to contest elections. “Next year,” the tech billionaire responded. in the 2026 midterm cycle, targeting November 2026 for the House and Senate races. “We’ll start small, contesting key seats in 2026 to flip the balance, not 2028,” he said.

The South African-born businessman is ineligible to run for president of the United States, as candidates must be born in the USA.
