Donald Trump claims that he has negotiated a ceasefire proposal with Israel.

But whether Israel itself has even approved the proposal is unclear.

Meanwhile, the killing of Palestinians in Gaza continues.

While an Israeli delegation visited Washington DC for ceasefire talks earlier this week, bombs continued to rain down on Gaza.

On Monday alone, at least 60 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks in several locations in the region, Reuters reports. Among them, around 20 people were killed in an attack on a beach cafe in Gaza City.

Among the dead were children, women and a local journalist, according to paramedics on site.

The attack is the deadliest in weeks. The attacks continued into Tuesday, according to the Israeli military, which itself says more than 140 attacks were carried out against “terror targets,” the Times of Israel reports.

Trump: “It’s only going to get worse”

Shortly after the Israeli attacks, Trump claims in a post on Truth Social that the Israeli delegation has agreed to American terms for a 60-day ceasefire, and that everything now depends on Hamas.

“I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas accepts this agreement, because it will not get better – it will only get worse,” he writes.

The statement has been met with some confusion. As of Wednesday morning, Israel still had not confirmed that any new agreement had been reached between Israel and the US, the BBC reports.

Will meet at the White House

Hamas leaders have said in a comment to the BBC that the group is "ready and serious" about reaching a ceasefire if it means a definitive end to the war, and will meet mediators from Qatar and Egypt this week for negotiations.

Israel has also previously said that they are open to a 60-day ceasefire – but that the war will only end when Hamas has been completely dismantled.

Trump's statement comes just under a week before Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet the president again at the White House, where Trump has promised that he will be"very firm" with the Israeli prime minister.
