A shooting incident occurred on Wednesday at the US Army's Fort Stewart base in Georgia, injuring five soldiers and leaving one suspected perpetrator in custody, MTI reported.

According to the information, the incident occurred in the area of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team. The base was immediately closed, and in addition to the military police, the Liberty County Sheriff's Office also participated in the intervention.

According to an official statement from Fort Stewart, all five victims suffered minor injuries, were given first aid, and were transported to Winn Military Hospital for further treatment.

The base did not provide information about the perpetrator, but emphasized that"he no longer poses a threat to his surroundings" and that "the active threat has ceased" in the base area.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp called the incident a "tragic tragedy" in a message posted on Twitter.

Fort Stewart is located in the southeastern part of the state, 225 miles (362 km) southeast of Atlanta and about 40 miles (64 km) southwest of Savannah. It is home to thousands of soldiers.
