Police revealed shocking details about Raja Raghuvanshi's murder in Meghalaya, where his wife Sonam is a prime accused. Police sources said she planned the murder with her lover.

Meghalaya Police sources have revealed shocking details on how the murder of Indore native Raja Raghuvanshi, whose wife Sonam Raghuvanshi is the prime suspect in the case, was planned by the accused.
Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi, a newlywed couple from Indore, went on a honeymoon trip to Meghalaya in May, but their romantic getaway was beset by tragedy when Raja’s decomposed body was discovered in a gorge, while Sonam was believed to be missing. However, in a shocking twist, Sonam was found alive in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur, and her lover, Raj Kushwaha, turned out to be the alleged mastermind behind the murder.
Three others — Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash, and Anand — are believed to have carried out the murder. While Sonam was reported to have surrendered, Raja’s family claimed she had instead reached out to them in fear and was handed over to the police.
How Was The Murder Carried Out?
According to police sources in Shillong, Sonam and Raj Kushwaha had planned Raja’s murder together, and it was Kushwaha who decided to hire contract killers for the job. During the entire operation, Raj was allegedly in touch with Sonam over the phone.
Three contract killers – Akash, Vishal and Anand – were in Shillong where the Indore couple was spending their honeymoon. The murder was carried out after Sonam lured her husband onto a deserted road in Cherrapunji, according to the sources.
After carrying out the murder, all four accused, including Sonam, went from Shillong to Assam’s Guwahati, police sources informed. They stayed in Guwahati for a day and left together, separating after a while, police sources informed.
Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was discovered in a deep gorge near the picturesque Weisawdong Falls. His jewellery – a gold ring and neck chain- was missing, raising suspicions of foul play. An autopsy later revealed that Raja was hit at the back and front of his head.
What began as a missing persons case turned into a shocking tale of betrayal and murder, as the police investigated the case for weeks, recovering a bloodstained machete and the couple’s abandoned scooter. A local tourist guide informed police that the couple had not been alone and were seen with three unidentified men on the day of their disappearance.
According to the sources, when the case was being investigated, officers came to know that Sonam is alive and was possibly involved in her husband’s murder. They reportedly checked her call details and came to know that Sonam was in touch with Raj Kushwaha, with whom she was allegedly having an affair.
After technical surveillance and CCTV of many places, the police first reached Lalitpur, from where Akash was arrested. After that, police arrested Vishal and Raj Kushwaha from Indore. Anand was arrested in Sagar.
Sonam Claims Innocence After Arrest
Sonam was traced and arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur, where police said she surrendered. According to Ghazipur SP Iraj Raja, authorities received information that a woman named Sonam was spotted at Kashi Dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur road.
In her first statement after being taken into custody, Sonam claimed innocence in her husband’s murder and claimed she was abducted. She alleged that she, after abduction, was abandoned in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur, from where she called her brother.
A total of five people have been arrested and will be brought to Shillong for legal proceedings. Sonam’s family have denied her involved in Raja’s murder and have called for a CBI probe.
