Trump's Stance on Putin and Russia

US President Donald Trump claims that he has sent a letter to all NATO countries, in which he writes that he is ready to impose massive sanctions against Russia, but only if everyone else agrees to do the same.

- And when all NATO countries stop buying oil from Russia, he quotes in a post on Truth Social.

He calls the purchase of Russian oil by some NATO countries shocking.

- It significantly weakens our negotiating position and bargaining power towards Russia, he writes further.

He also calls for NATO countries to impose between 50 and 100 percent tariffs on China until the war in Ukraine is over, to further increase the pressure.

"If NATO does as I say, the war will end quickly," Trump wrote.

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright expressed the same position before a meeting with EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen earlier this week.

After the meeting, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU is considering phasing out Russian oil and gas faster than originally planned. The original plan is to phase out Russian energy by 2028, but the plan is facing opposition from Hungary and Slovakia.
