The United Nations Security Council adopted a US resolution detailing the mandate of the international stabilization force in Gaza, as outlined in the ceasefire imposed by US President Donald Trump, Al Jazeera reported.

A Hamas spokesman told Qatari media that the group rejects the presence of foreign military personnel in the Palestinian enclave, stating that they would exchange the Israeli occupation for"foreign tutelage".

There were 13 votes in favor of the text, which Washington described after the vote as"historic and constructive," with abstentions from Russia and China and no vetoes. The US ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, stated that"today's resolution represents another significant step that will allow Gaza to prosper and an environment that will allow Israel to live in security."

The text, revised several times as a result of high-level negotiations,"supports" President Trump's plan, which allowed a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the war-torn Palestinian territory.

Trump shared a post on Truth Social congratulating the world on the “incredible UN Security Council vote.” He highlighted that the resolution calls for the creation of a peace committee, “which I will chair.”

Trump also thanked all members of the Security Council, including those who abstained from the vote, as well as other countries that, according to him, “strongly supported the initiative, including Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey and Jordan.”

The peace plan authorizes the creation of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) that would work with Israel and Egypt and with newly trained Palestinian police to help secure border areas and demilitarize the Gaza Strip.
