Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that those responsible for the Delhi car blast will face the strictest punishment, asserting that the verdict in the case will “send a message to the world" that no one should ever dare to carry out such an attack in India again.

Addressing the inauguration of the Moti Bhai Chaudhary Sagar Sainik School in Gujarat via video conferencing, Shah also expressed deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the explosion outside Delhi’s Red Fort earlier this week.

“The punishment given to the perpetrators of the Delhi terror attack will send a message to the world that no one should ever dare to even think of such an attack in our country," Shah said.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve to ensure strict punishment for all those responsible for the terrorist incident will definitely be fulfilled," he added.

The Union Home Minister’s remarks came a day after the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Modi upon his return from Bhutan, passed a resolution condemning the attack.

The Centre officially described the November 10 explosion near the Red Fort as a “terrorist incident" and directed investigative agencies to handle the case with “utmost urgency and professionalism" to ensure swift justice.

“The country has witnessed a heinous terror incident, perpetrated by anti-national forces, through a car explosion near the Red Fort. The explosion resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries," the government statement read, calling it a “dastardly and cowardly act" that claimed innocent lives.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police on Wednesday evening recovered a red Ford EcoSport car linked to the prime suspect, Dr Umar Un Nabi, in Faridabad’s Khandawali village.

Investigators said the vehicle is believed to have been used by associates of the suspects behind the blast, which involved a Hyundai i20 packed with explosives.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formally taken over the probe and formed a special investigation team after preliminary findings suggested a coordinated terror plot.

According to officials quoted by PTI, Umar Nabi, who allegedly drove the explosives-laden car that detonated near the Red Fort, had planned a major terror strike around December 6, the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition.

His plan was reportedly uncovered following the interrogation of eight people arrested for alleged links to the module, as well as statements from their friends, family, and neighbours.
