BRASILIA – The Supreme Federal Court (STF) has declared the final judgment in the criminal case of the coup plot and may order the execution of the 27-year and three-month prison sentence of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Bolsonaro was convicted by the Court on September 11th for leading an attempted coup d'état, alongside close allies and members of the Armed Forces. The sentence is initially to be served in a closed prison, as the conviction is for more than eight years.
But last Saturday, the 22nd, he was preventively arrested at the Federal Police Superintendency in Brasília, after attempting to violate his electronic ankle monitor with a soldering iron. Bolsonaro stated that the initiative was motivated by"paranoia" and "hallucinations" caused by the use of psychiatric medication.
The deadline for determining the end of the process began on the 19th, after the publication of the First Panel's ruling that rejected Bolsonaro's first motion for clarification. The document formalized the former president's conviction.
Moraes also declared the final judgment for Alexandre Ramagem and Anderson Torres. Ramagem (PL-RJ) left the country in September after being convicted by the STF and is considered a fugitive.
Others convicted in the coup plot are also in line for the conclusion of their trials: retired generals Augusto Heleno and Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, and Admiral Almir Garnier.
