Salvini's critical remarks against Macron regarding Russia's war in Ukraine are unacceptable in France's opinion, anonymous sources in French diplomatic circles revealed on Saturday.
She was reminded that Salvini's comments undermine the climate of trust between France and Italy.
They threaten cooperation between neighboring countries,"especially with regard to unlimited support for Ukraine," the sources said.
Salvini, the leader of the national conservative League party, previously criticized Macron for his readiness to send troops to Ukraine after the conclusion of a peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev.
Speaking at an event in Milan, Salvini suggested that Macron should go to Ukraine himself."Put on your helmet, your vest, your rifle and go to Ukraine," Salvini said.
Although Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has offered Ukraine her firm support, she has repeatedly said that Rome will not provide troops for a peacekeeping mission in the country.
Salvini is a close ally of French nationalist conservative leader Marine Le Pen, who came in second behind Macron in the 2022 French presidential election.
He has repeatedly criticized Macron, using offensive expressions.
