UPDATE 22:05 – UNRWA chief calls for humanitarian access and press freedom in Gaza

Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, said it was time to"build a future of peace" in Gaza.

In a post on X, the UNRWA Commissioner-General called for humanitarian aid to be allowed into the enclave on a large scale and for international journalists to be granted free access to Gaza to “support and honor the heroic work of Palestinian journalists.”

UPDATE 21:10 – Starmer: Britain could help dismantle Hamas's weapons

Speaking to reporters after the peace summit in Egypt, Sir Keir Starmer called the day"truly historic," giving credit to President Trump and the other leaders who made this moment possible.

He stressed that the real challenge begins now, with implementation:"Yesterday was a historic day, but what happens tomorrow really matters."

Starmer said Britain could play a key role in monitoring the ceasefire and dismantling Hamas's weapons, drawing on its experience in Northern Ireland.

“Now we need to focus on how we move things forward,” he added. “We can’t afford any mistakes.”

UPDATE 21:05 – Trump leaves Egypt after signing Gaza peace deal

Donald Trump left Egypt aboard Air Force One, returning to Washington D.C., after an intense 24-hour diplomatic tour.

The US president left Sharm el-Sheikh after signing the Gaza peace plan, alongside leaders from around the world.

Earlier today, he addressed the Israeli parliament, just hours after Hamas released the last 20 surviving hostages as part of the deal he negotiated.

Before boarding, Trump waved to those present but declined to speak with reporters.

UPDATE 20:20 – Trump presents the summit leaders in alphabetical order in Sharm el-Sheikh

Donald Trump took over as host in Sharm el-Sheikh, listing the names of the leaders present.

After Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised him, Trump joked:"Let's go home, there's nothing more to say."

He then went through each country in alphabetical order, starting with President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority, followed by the Arab League, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Arriving in France, Trump said he “imagines” that Emmanuel Macron is “somewhere behind me.” When he realized the French president was not there, he added: “I can’t believe it, you’re taking a low-key approach today.”

He also complimented Italy's Giorgia Meloni, calling her"beautiful" and "a very successful politician."

"Now, in the United States, if you call a woman beautiful, that's the end of your political career. But I'll take the risk," he added.

Meloni, standing slightly awkwardly behind Trump, smiled at his remarks.

Trump then turned his attention to the United Kingdom, where Sir Keir Starmer stepped forward to exchange a few inaudible words with him, before returning to his position behind the US president.

UPDATE 20:05 – Trump:"The prayers of millions of people have finally been heard"

Donald Trump addressed the crowd in Sharm el-Sheikh, declaring that today"is the day that people across the region and around the world have worked, strived, hoped and prayed for."

"We have achieved what everyone said was impossible. We finally have peace in the Middle East," he said.

"It's so beautiful to see a new and bright day dawning. And now the rebuilding begins," he added.

Trump also expressed “immense gratitude to the Arab and Muslim nations” who, he said, “helped make this incredible achievement possible.”

UPDATE 20:00 – Egypt welcomes Gaza agreements as the beginning of a new era of peace in the Middle East

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi described today's Gaza agreements as"opening the door to a new era of peace and security in the Middle East."

Al Sisi stressed that "the end of the war in Gaza should mark the end of all wars in the region" and announced that Egypt would host a summit on the reconstruction of Gaza.

He also highlighted that the two-state solution is"the only way to fulfill the aspirations of both the Palestinian and Israeli people to end the conflict."

"Peace is not achieved by countries and states, but by people who are sure that yesterday's adversaries are today's friends," he added.

When introducing Donald Trump to the stage, al-Sisi said:"I would like to express my deep appreciation for the efforts of President Trump."

UPDATE 19:45 – Trump seems committed to Gaza peace plan, for now

Despite the celebratory scenes in Egypt, the road ahead remains long and uncertain, with"many potential obstacles," according to Sky News' US correspondent Mark Stone.

Speaking outside the conference room in Sharm el-Sheikh, Stone stressed that Trump had signed a “major commitment” in Egypt, “but he was not signing peace in the Middle East.”

"He has signed the first phase of a very long road, with many challenges ahead. No one should jump to conclusions about the difficulties that lie ahead. President Trump, I assume, is aware of that, but for now he seems completely committed."

UPDATE 19:40 – Trump signs Gaza peace plan: "This has lasted 3,000 years"

Donald Trump officially signed the Gaza peace plan, the first in Sharm el-Sheikh.

As he signed, he remarked,"This has lasted 3,000 years, can you imagine? And it will hold up."

The agreement was then signed by Abdel Fattah al Sisi, the leader of Egypt, and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey.

"This is an incredible day for the world," Trump said, adding that the agreement was so important that it could prevent a Third World War, which he suggested could have broken out in the Middle East.

UPDATE 19:35 – Trump praises world leaders before signing Gaza peace deal

Donald Trump is personally addressing world leaders to recognize their contributions to the Gaza peace deal.

To Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar, he said:"People may question your character, but you are truly a good person. You live in a difficult region and without your support, this would not have been possible."

To Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey: "He was a true friend, always there whenever I needed him."

To Abdel Fattah al Sisi of Egypt: "I chose Egypt because of your crucial support. Many wanted to host this event, but I felt it was the right choice. You are a great leader, with very low crime rates."

To Giorgia Meloni: "We have Italy. She is a strong leader and she is doing an excellent job."

UPDATE 19:20 – Trump hosts Gaza peace agreement signing ceremony in Egypt

World leaders gathered in Sharm el-Sheikh for the official signing ceremony of the Gaza peace agreement, hosted by US President Donald Trump.

In his speech, Trump described the agreement as"very comprehensive," noting that it would "establish rules and regulations" for implementing the peace framework.

Referring to the repatriation of Israeli bodies from Gaza, Trump said the process was underway, explaining:"They are identified and organized. They are working to find out where those bodies are."

The signing of the agreement marks an important moment in Trump's broader diplomatic initiative, aimed at stabilizing the region and strengthening international cooperation in the field of peace and security.

UPDATE 19:15 – Egypt gains prestige following the summit, despite uncertain results

Egypt, host of today's peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, has long played a"quiet but essential role" in Donald Trump's efforts to mediate peace in Gaza, according to military analyst Michael Clarke.

However, Clarke pointed out that both the country and its leader, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, are now stepping into the spotlight, even receiving public praise from the US president following their recent meeting.

"Al-Sisi will gain significant prestige from this event, not just domestically but also on the international stage," Clarke said, crediting Egypt for its effective diplomacy during the war.

Despite the diplomatic attention, Clarke expressed skepticism about the long-term impact of the summit, describing Trump's earlier speech in the Knesset as"amusing and disappointing" and suggesting that the peace process is far from guaranteed.

UPDATE 19:10 – World leaders gathered for a group photo at the summit in Egypt

After personally greeting each participant on stage in Sharm el-Sheikh, US President Donald Trump was joined by the leaders and dignitaries present for the official summit photo.

"This is an extremely important moment for all these leaders," noted American correspondent Mark Stone, describing the atmosphere as symbolic and historic.

He added that the meeting marks"the beginning of the next stage of a process that will be difficult and complex," calling the day "an extraordinary one" for international diplomacy.

UPDATE 18:45 – World leaders gather for a photo with Trump in Sharm el-Sheikh

Donald Trump was in the spotlight today, first addressing the Knesset in Israel and now in Sharm el-Sheikh.

The US President is accompanied by world leaders, who take turns posing with him.

Trump and Macron"fight" at Gaza peace summit.

Among those who joined were Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and European leaders Emmanuel Macron, Giorgia Meloni, Sir Keir Starmer and Friedrich Merz.

The King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, and the President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, also took the stage.

UPDATE 18:40 – FIFA President Gianni Infantino present at the Summit

The presence of FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the Gaza peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh surprised many, as he was the only sports official among the heads of state, according to Sky News.

Infantino has long maintained a close relationship with US President Donald Trump, attending the signing ceremony of the Abraham Accords at the White House in 2020, between Israel and Arab states.

Although he has been under pressure to use football's influence to address the Israel–Hamas conflict, Infantino has insisted that sport cannot solve geopolitical problems.

Calls in Europe to suspend Israeli teams from soccer have died down after it was reported that the Trump administration would intervene to prevent this.

Recently, Infantino praised Trump on Instagram, saying he “definitely deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.”

Frequent visits to the White House and symbolic gestures, such as giving Trump a replica of the World Cup trophy, underscore their strong personal bond.

Observers are now speculating that Infantino could even propose a symbolic"peace match" between Israel and Palestine.

UPDATE 18:10 – Trump in Egypt: Gaza deal would not have existed without US strikes on Iran

Speaking in Sharm el-Sheikh alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, US President Donald Trump said that Iran"wants to make a deal" and that recent US military actions were essential for progress made on the situation in Gaza, Sky News reports.

"I think Iran will cooperate; they've been hit and weakened," Trump said, stressing that US attacks on Iranian nuclear infrastructure were decisive.

"Honestly, if we hadn't hit them on nuclear, I don't think you could have had this incredible, once-in-a-lifetime deal," he added.

Trump noted that Tehran had publicly expressed strong support for the peace deal, describing it as"total."

Asked when talks for the second phase of his peace plan would begin, the president replied that they were"already underway, from our point of view."

"The stages are, to some extent, mixed together," he said, suggesting that the negotiations are moving forward in overlapping phases rather than in distinct steps.

UPDATE 17:45 – Donald Trump and the President of Egypt are traveling together to the Sharm el-Sheikh summit

Donald Trump was accompanied by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on a short drive from the airport to the conference hall in Sharm el-Sheikh, ahead of the international summit.

The two leaders traveled in the United States presidential limousine, known as"The Beast."

Sky News' American correspondent Mark Stone noted: "This morning, The Beast had Netanyahu. A month or two ago, it was Vladimir Putin. And now it's President Sisi... what wouldn't anyone give to be a fly on the window of that car."

UPDATE 17:40 – Donald Trump arrived in Sharm el-Sheikh three hours late

US President Donald Trump has arrived in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, for an international peace summit on Gaza – three hours later than scheduled. The delay highlights the influence enjoyed by the current US president.

Trump is expected to give a speech at the summit.

Several world leaders have already arrived in Egypt, including British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron. Also attending the summit are Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
