"I can report to the world the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.

"Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace."

Trump said he "hopes" further military action will not be needed, as he congratulated the US military on its operation.

"Hopefully, we'll no longer need their services in this capacity. I hope that's so," he said.

"There will be peace or tragedy for Iran, far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days.

"Remember, there are many targets left."

He added: "Tonight's was the most difficult of them all, by far, and perhaps the most lethal. But if peace does not come quickly, we'll go after those other targets with precision, speed and skill."

The president went on to congratulate Israel Prime Minister Benjamin 'Bibi' Netanyahu for this role in carrying out the US strikes.

He said he worked"like a team perhaps no team has ever worked before" to launch an assault on Iran's nuclear sites Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.
