According to the website index.hu, Orbán said in an interview with Kossuth radio station on Friday that the Poles are a friendly country regardless of the current political situation."They are our historical allies, they are close to us and true friends. That is why we cannot ignore the fact of what happened in Poland," the Hungarian prime minister said."We stand behind the Poles and we are in 100% solidarity with them," he added.
According to Orbán, the threat of war is omnipresent and a similar incident could have happened earlier."Wednesday's incident is the embodiment of the dangerous times we live in. The threat of war is imminent. We are not at war, but the Poles are up to their ears in it," the Hungarian prime minister said.
"We keep our distance, we do not participate in it, but we are neighbors of the state where the war is taking place," Orbán added.
Russian drones violated Polish airspace overnight. US President Donald Trump said the incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace could have been a mistake.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, in response to the White House chief's words, denied that the entire incident was a mistake."We would also like the drone attack on Poland to be a mistake. But it wasn't. And we know it," said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not denied that drones entered Polish airspace, but says it was not intentional, let alone an attack. It said it did not plan to hit any targets in Poland during its airstrike on Ukraine.
