Abbie Chatfield says the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk is “bad for everyone”, as she reveals she “hates” him hours after he was fatally shot.

Kirk, a controversial figure who founded the right-wing youth group Turning Point USA, was speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, around 12.20pm on Wednesday (US time) when he was shot in front of hundreds of people.

The father-of-two was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead.

The alleged gunman, who was caught on camera running across a rooftop shortly after opening fire, remains at large.

As tributes flooded in from across the political spectrum, including from the Australian government, Chatfield, a vocal left-wing influencer, shared her thoughts on the suspected political assassination.

“Even tho I hate Charlie Kirk this is bad for everyone...,” the It’s Alot podcast host wrote on her Instagram stories at 9:30am.

“The right (and possibly the left) will become more violent in replacement of actual democracy, he will be martyred, they won’t see that this is BECAUSE of right wing views on gun control that this could even happen …. It will cause tensions to rise and drive people further apart than we already are

“If this is the beginning then what’s to come?”

The 30-year-old star also re-shared a post from another account that featured a quote Kirk said in April 2023.

“I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights,” the quote read.

She added Alanis Morissette’s song ‘Ironic’ over the top.

In another re-share, she amplified a post from Cheek Media, co-founded by Hannah Ferguson.

It read: “Charlie Kirk will receive more media coverage for his death than the murdered schoolchildren he said were ‘unfortunately worth it’ to preserve gun laws”.

Ferguson later shared on her Stories that she was writing “a long form piece” about Charlie Kirk’s death that will explore how “progressives” should respond to acts of political violence against “right-wing extremists”.

“Between celebration and condemnation, there’s a lot of distinct feelings being debated,” she said.

Her media company’s Instagram shared social media posts claiming that Kirk “advocated for a culture of guns and violence”.
