Factual Reporting and Analysis

Iran has condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli strikes against the leaders of the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement, whilst they were discussing US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza as a violation of all principles of international law.

Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baghaei stated on Tuesday that the aerial assaults on the headquarters of Hamas in the Qatari capital, Doha, were extremely dangerous, infringed upon all established principles and norms of international law, and were contrary to the UN Charter.

“The attack constitutes an assault on the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar as well as the Palestinian negotiators. It must serve as a stark warning to the entire [West Asia] region and the international community so that they would not remain silent in the face of the Zionist regime's repeated violations of law and ongoing crimes.”

A senior Israeli official told the regime’s Channel 13 television channel that Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya and Zaher Jabarin, chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau in the West Bank, were in the meeting when it was struck.

Longtime Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal — whom Israel tried to assassinate in Jordan in 1997 — was present at the meeting as well, according to reports.

An unnamed Israeli official told Channel 12 television channel that Donald Trump gave the green light for the Israeli strike in Qatar.

On September 7, Trump announced that he had presented a new proposal aimed at concluding the war in Gaza, asserting that Israel had agreed to his terms. He further cautioned Hamas to accept his conditions, stating that he had notified the group of the"consequences" of rejecting the offer.

US officials say Israel has agreed to ceasefire initiatives, despite Israeli leaders continuing to openly vow to escalate their campaign of genocide.

Hamas has confirmed receiving “ideas” from the US for ending the war.

The Palestinian group is thought to be holding some 50 Israeli captives, of whom 20 are still believed to be alive.

Meanwhile, Qatar has suspended the negotiation on a deal until further notice, following the strike against Hamas leadership.
