Drone Specifications and Origin

The drone was first noticed and reported by local residents worried about the sight and noise produced by an unknown object flying near the capital Vilnius, reports the London daily Guardian.

It took the authorities four days to finally find the drone that crashed near the Gajzhiunai military training ground.

The Lithuanian public service LRT announced today that the State Prosecutor of Lithuania Nida Grunskiene stated today that the drone was found to be carrying an explosive device which was neutralized on the spot.

Lithuanian Air Force Chief of Staff Col. Dainius Paškevičius said the drone was carrying only"two kilograms of explosives," which is significantly less than the usual 50-kilogram payload.

Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile Šakalijen stated that the current assumption is that the out-of-control drone accidentally entered Lithuania and that Lithuania informed NATO of the findings so far and requested urgent additional support for air defense to protect Lithuanian skies from similar incidents.
