A majority of lawmakers in the US Senate, including a group of Republicans, passed a resolution on Thursday to repeal massive global tariffs against America's allies and partners imposed by the Donald Trump administration.

The vote took place after the upper house voted the day before to lift tariffs against Canada and Brazil, Ukrinform reports with reference to The Hill.

Four Republican senators voted with Democrats to approve a bipartisan resolution that eliminates high stakes for allies such as the European Union, Japan and South Korea, the report said.

Among Republicans, Senators Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski spoke in favor of this decision.

The resolution was up for a second vote after failing in the Senate in April. The lawmakers then tied, requiring Vice President J.D. Vance to vote to block the initiative.

At the same time, it is not yet clear whether the House of Representatives, where President Trump retains significant influence over the Republican majority, will support the resolution adopted on Thursday.

As Ukrinform reported, on Tuesday the US Senate voted against 50% tariffs on Brazilian imports, introduced by President Donald Trump on August 1.
