Diplomatic and Protest Activities

At 12:45 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi landed in Sweden to meet the Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

The Ukrainian leader landed at Linköping City Airport dressed all in black, a black overshirt and a pair of black pants.

After he greeted Ukraine's ambassador to Sweden, Svitlana Zalishchuk, he gave Ulf Kristersson a little hug.

The two leaders then got into a car and drove away.

They are expected to discuss a possible export industry deal. And the preliminary speculation concerns the Saab Jas 39 Gripen.

According to TV4 News' information to Sweden, it concerns the Jas Gripen model E, which Sweden wants to sell up to 120 of. Sales would then be twice as large as Sweden's previous largest.

They will also make a business visit to Saab in Linköping, reports Ekot.

Among other things, the Saab Jas 39 Gripen plane, which has long been discussed as support for Ukraine, is manufactured in Linköping.

A press conference will be held at Saab at 3 p.m.

Presenting defense news

During the press conference, a news item in the defense export area will be presented.

– We will discuss it later today, and we will look at one of the world's absolute best fighter aircraft. This is a very long-term, very big question, Kristersson tells SVT.

In addition to Ulf Kristersson, Minister of Energy and Enterprise Ebba Busch, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard, Minister of Defense Pål Jonson and Minister of Education and Integration Simona Mohamsson will also be present.

Hultqvist (S):"A greater collaboration"

Peter Hultqvist (S) is chairman of the Riksdag's Defense Committee and the Social Democrats' defense policy spokesperson.

He does not want to say what information he received from the Prime Minister in advance, but tells Expressen that Zelensky's visit is about"greater cooperation."

– That is my assessment.

– Otherwise, I don't think he would have chosen to come here.

The Social Democrats have previously wanted to send Gripen planes to Ukraine. That would be a success for Sweden, says Peter Hultqvist (S).

– We see exporting Gripen to Ukraine as a very important and positive thing. And it is a very big deal if we can be part of building Ukraine's future defense force.
