“Ukraine has again attacked the oil pipeline leading to Hungary, as a result of which the oil transport to our country has stopped. Another attack on our energy security is outrageous and unacceptable,” said Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and then highlighted:

Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin has just informed us that Russian specialists are trying to restore the transformer station, which is essential for the operation of the pipeline, as quickly as possible, but they are not yet able to say when the transmission can resume.

According to Péter Szijjártó, Brussels and Kiev have been trying to push Hungary into the war in Ukraine for three and a half years, and the increasingly frequent Ukrainian attacks on our energy security are also aimed at this. "So let's make it clear again: this is not our war, we have nothing to do with it, we want to stay out of it, and as long as we are in government, we will stay out of it."

Finally, the Foreign Minister said: “The electricity coming from Hungary plays a key role in Ukraine’s energy supply…”

The most recent Ukrainian drone attack hit the Friendship oil pipeline in western Russia on August 13, The Kyiv Independent reported at the time, citing Ukrainian military sources. The attack was not officially confirmed by either Ukraine or Russia.

MOL said at the time that crude oil shipments were proceeding according to schedule. This was not the first time that the pipeline, which also supplies oil to Hungary, had been attacked since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war, but previous incidents had not caused any significant disruption.

Knowing that similar cases have occurred in large numbers since the outbreak of the war, and that oil supplies were restored after a day or two,

According to Index sources, the latest attack is more aimed at today's meeting in Washington. So this is more of a political pressure on the Hungarian government than a security of supply pressure.

Incidentally, not only strategic reserves but also the Adriatic pipeline are available. Thus, any temporary outages or disruptions in transportation are practically unnoticed by consumers, and security of supply is not significantly affected.

In response to our inquiry, the Mol Group wrote that technical restoration is underway, after which crude oil deliveries will resume. The region's security of supply remains guaranteed.
