Cabello highlighted the participation of Venezuelans in the enlistment days for the militia to defend the country.
Minister of the Interior, Justice, and Peace Diosdado Cabello said this Wednesday, August 27, that the country is prepared to face whatever comes, no matter how difficult, after mentioning the enlistment of militia members to defend the homeland in the face of the United States' intentions to send vessels to the Caribbean Sea to combat drug trafficking.
We don't underestimate any threat. Nor do we overestimate it, much less dismiss it (…). Do we prepare for the worst? Always. That's a prerequisite for facing whatever comes, no matter how difficult it may be, Cabello said on his weekly program,"Con el mazo dando," broadcast on the state channel VTV.
Cabello also addressed Venezuelan participation in the militia enlistment campaigns for the country's defense, after Washington expressed its readiness to use all its power to stem the flow of drugs into its territory, including the deployment of U.S. ships in waters near Venezuela.
What is certain is that our people, our comrades, our women, our youth have stepped forward to defend the homeland from any aggression, Cabello emphasized.
On Tuesday, the Maduro administration, through its permanent mission to the UN, warned that the United States plans to send a guided-missile cruiser and a fast-attack nuclear submarine to Venezuela's coast next week, among other warships.
This, according to Venezuela, represents a serious threat to regional peace and security, as well as a violation of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, which declared Latin America and the Caribbean nuclear-weapon-free zones.
Detainees in Delta
Cabello reported the arrest of twelve people in Delta Amacuro, eight of whom are Colombian, two Trinidadian, and two Venezuelan.
We've found some things in our Delta that can only be brought in by boat from Trinidad (and Tobago). We've found them. Today we caught twelve people in that area, he said, without giving details.
Although the minister did not specify the reasons for the arrest, VTV stated in a statement that the twelve individuals are linked to cross-border illicit activities, without specifying which ones.
