Cairo. At least 38 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli army fire in Gaza since the peace agreement between Israel and Hamas came into force on October 10, the press service of the Palestinian enclave's government reported yesterday, accusing Tel Aviv of systematically failing to comply with the terms of the pact.

"Since the announcement of the cessation of the war in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation has committed a series of violations, the number of which has reached 47 to date (…) Due to the Tel Aviv regime's non-compliance, 38 people have died and 143 have been injured," the government agency said in a statement.

He added that the Israel Defense Forces killed nine civilians in a targeted attack in Gaza City on the latest day.

The death toll has surpassed 68,100, while the number of wounded or maimed has reached 170,200 since the start of the Israeli offensive on October 7, 2023. Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for the Gaza Civil Defense, reported that more than 280 bodies were recovered from under the rubble and estimated that more than 10,000 people were buried in the millions of tons of what were once buildings.

Israel has received the bodies of two hostages from the Red Cross who were handed over to Tel Aviv security forces in Gaza, the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a fugitive from the International Criminal Court, stated. It noted that the remains of a tenth hostage, returned by the Islamist organization the day before yesterday, were identified as 76-year-old Eliyahu Margalit.

So far, Hamas has handed over the remains of 12 of the 28 deceased hostages remaining in the Gaza Strip, while health authorities in the Palestinian enclave announced that Israel has returned the bodies of 15 Palestinians, bringing the total number of repatriated bodies to 135.

Netanyahu will run

Netanyahu announced that he will seek a new term in the upcoming elections and warned that the Rafah border crossing with Egypt will remain closed"until further notice" pending the release of the remaining hostages.

Hamas stated that Netanyahu's decision"constitutes a flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement and a repudiation of the commitments he made to the mediators and guarantor parties."

Some 170,000 injured people require procedures that cannot be performed due to a lack of medical equipment and Israel's refusal to allow access to needed supplies in the devastated territory, the Gaza City Medical Relief Society warned, Al Jazeera reported.

The U.S. State Department asserted on social media that it has credible reports of an imminent attack planned by the Islamist movement against residents of Gaza.

"If Hamas proceeds with this attack, measures will be taken to protect the people of Gaza and preserve the integrity of the ceasefire," brokered by US President Donald Trump to end the two-year war between Israel and Hamas, he added. No additional details were given.
