"It was too bad. The 'Hamas' didn't really want to negotiate. I think they wanted to die," Trump said.

"Now we have the last hostages left, and they know what happens after they get the last hostages, and basically that's why they really didn't want to make a deal," the US president explained.

Trump also said that French President Emmanuel Macron's decision to recognize the state of Palestine was meaningless.

"He's a very good guy, I like him, but this announcement doesn't matter," Trump told reporters, responding to the French president's announcement the previous day that Paris would formally recognize the state of Palestine at the UN in September.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff reportedly announced on Thursday that Washington, along with Israel, is withdrawing its delegation from Gaza ceasefire talks because Hamas is"not acting in good faith."
