The police, in cooperation with the secret service, tracked down and detained the perpetrator within 36 hours of committing the brutal crime. He is a 52-year-old resident of Lviv, his name and surname have not yet been disclosed. Radio Svoboda, which refers to its sources in the criminal justice system, reported that the murderer had made contact with someone from Russia in connection with the fact that his son was missing. He fought in the ranks of the Ukrainian army in the vicinity of Bakhmut. The Russians captured this Ukrainian city in May 2023. The father has not had any news about his son since then.

He decided to try searching for his son on social media in the hope of finding some people who could tell him the truth."He claims he started communicating with Russian representatives who said his son had supposedly died," Radio Svoboda reports. They told him that Ukraine had instigated the war, or rather, they blamed Ukrainian politicians for it.

The father learned from the other side that if he killed a politician in Ukraine, he would get his son's body. In this context, he mentioned Parub on his own initiative, saying that he had seen him on the street several times, because they both live in Lviv.

Svoboda reports about the 52-year-old man that he later began preparing to eliminate the former head of parliament. He got a firearm, bought an electric bicycle and a helmet. He also acquired a car, which he acquired after presenting false identity documents. He used the car to monitor Parubý's movements to find out his approximate schedule.

On the fateful day, he got on an electric bike, then ran up to Parubé from behind and shot him eight times. The victim died at the scene.

The version about the Russian trail was also reported by the Vysokij Zamok server. Citing its sources, it wrote that some Russians were blackmailing the man in question by handing over the body of his fallen son if he killed a well-known Ukrainian politician.

Some media outlets in Ukraine reported that Parubiy had requested state protection. In the past, he was entitled to it as the speaker of parliament. After leaving office, he could use it for one more year. The police responded by saying that Parubiy, as an ordinary member of parliament, had not requested protection.

Parubiy served as the Speaker of the Parliament from April 2016 to August 2019. In 2004, he was one of the leading figures of the Orange Revolution in Kiev. He also later belonged to the camp of democratic political forces when Ukrainians opposed the regime of President Viktor Yanukovych. After his overthrow in 2014, Parubiy became Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

He had a reputation as a decent politician, and scandals were not associated with his name. He did not lead a flamboyant life, as he lived in a tenement house in Lviv with his wife and their daughter.
