Frank Caprio, the American judge who became known worldwide for the humane and compassionate way he approached cases, has died at the age of 88.

Caprio was the defining figure of the show “Caught in Providence”, which aired for more than twenty years, starting on local television, until it gained national and international exposure.

The special way in which he dealt with simple cases, mainly traffic violations, won the love of the public. With kindness, a sense of humor and empathy, Caprio managed to turn a simple court proceeding into a lesson in kindness and justice. Even after his retirement, he continued to upload videos from the courtroom on YouTube, touching millions of viewers around the world.

In his YouTube videos, Frank Caprio appeared to show genuine empathy for the people who appeared before him in court. He did not hesitate to use the publicity he gained to highlight important social issues, such as unequal access to the justice system.

Justice should be accessible to everyone. Unfortunately, it is not, he had emphasized in statements. Nearly 90% of low-income Americans are forced to deal with issues such as health care, unfair evictions, access to benefits and even traffic violations on their own.
