According to the agency, the man was supposed to drive a minibus packed with explosives.

On August 18, the FSB Public Relations Center reported that a terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge, which was being prepared by Ukrainian special services, had been prevented. A car with a homemade explosive device arrived in Russia from Ukraine in transit through a number of countries. The mined car crossed the Russian-Georgian border through the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint. With the help of a private carrier, it was planned to transport the car to Krasnodar Krai, where another driver was supposed to pick it up. The latter could have become an unwitting suicide bomber by heading to Crimea across the bridge. A criminal case has been opened.

The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, reported that the terrorists who tried to blow up the Crimean Bridge were transporting 130 kg of explosives disguised as a battery in a car.

On August 20, RIA Novosti reported that the transporters of a car with an explosive device for committing a terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge were detained in Krasnodar Krai.
