Sports experts have stated that Morocco's group in the FIFA World Cup is"balanced and suitable" and could represent a real opportunity to advance to the next rounds.

The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which took place in the American capital, resulted in the Moroccan national team being placed in Group C, which also includes the national teams of Brazil, Scotland and Haiti.

Badr Al-Din Al-Idrisi, a sports analyst, said, “The concept of ‘easy’ versus ‘difficult’ is now outdated in football, as the contexts, circumstances, and even the state of the teams at the time of competition now largely control the map of competition.”

El Idrissi told Hespress that “based on the available data and indicators, this group can be considered balanced, like a number of other groups; the current distribution of teams, based on the FIFA ranking, has produced groups of similar level.” He continued: “This group may be the best for the national team compared to other groups, given the presence of teams that we know well and that know us. This concerns the Brazilian national team and the Scottish national team, which we faced in the nineties, in addition to the Haitian national team, representing the North American region.”

The same spokesperson added: “On paper, this group seems manageable for the national team to advance to the second round, with the possibility of a battle for the top spot between Morocco and Brazil, especially since the Brazilian team does not currently appear to be at its best. Also, the Scottish team is no longer as strong as it once was, despite topping a tough group that included Denmark.”

The same analyst concluded: “Although it is still too early to talk, what is certain is that the three competitors will be closely monitoring the Moroccan national team during the Africa Cup of Nations, in order to assess its performance and readiness.”

Aziz Daouda, a sports expert, stated: “This group, in terms of theoretical balance, is similar to the other groups, because each one includes a strong team from the first group.”

Daouda added to Hespress that “what is new in this edition of the World Cup, after raising the number of teams to 48, is the entry of lower-level teams that would not have qualified in the previous system,” and continued: “For example, the Haitian team qualified because the United States, Mexico and Canada had already secured participation as host countries, and thus the door was opened for lower-level teams within the CONCACAF region.”

This means, according to the speaker, that “in each group we will often find two strong matches that are close in level, and a third match that appears easier and closer to a formality.”

But football, according to the same expert, “is not played on paper, but the outcome remains on the field and depends on the mental, physical and tactical readiness of the teams, and this applies to Morocco’s group.”

In conclusion, Daouda criticized the way the teams were distributed in the draw, as the major teams were placed far apart and in the comfort zone to ensure they stayed in the competition for a longer period.
