Rutte announced that the operation, called"East Guard", would begin tonight and would include air and ground bases, Reuters reported.

Speaking about the intrusion of Russian drones into Polish airspace, Rutte said that"it is reckless and unacceptable".

"We cannot allow Russian drones to enter allied airspace," Rutte said. According to him, so far Denmark, France, Great Britain and Germany have committed to participate in the mission, and other NATO member countries will join. NATO Commander-in-Chief for Europe Alexus Grinkevich said that NATO will defend every centimeter of the territory of the member states.

"Poland and citizens across the Alliance should be reassured by our swift response earlier this week and our significant announcement here today," Grinkiewicz said. He said on Thursday that Germany will permanently station one brigade of its army in Lithuania.

Grinkevich assessed that it will be a big step to strengthen defense and deterrence on NATO's eastern flank.

The United Nations Security Council will meet today for representatives of the body's member states to discuss drone incursions into Polish airspace, which Polish President Karol Nawrocki described as an attempt by Russia to test the response of Warsaw and NATO. The UN Security Council meeting was convened at the request of Slovenia, Denmark, Greece, France and Great Britain.
