Palestinian/Hamas Perspective - Israel Violated Ceasefire

Long-term Disarmament and Political Solutions

Since October 10, there has been a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas , after the parties agreed on the first phase of a peace agreement.

The agreement means, among other things, that Israel will withdraw its forces from Gaza, and that Hamas will lay down its weapons for good and relinquish control over the Gaza Strip.

This has happened

On October 10th at 11 am, the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel came into effect.

This after the parties signed the first part of a peace agreement presented by US President Donald Trump.

The agreement called for Israel to withdraw from the Gaza Strip and stop bombing, and for Hamas to release all hostages and disarm. The Hamas regime was also to be replaced by a technocratic government, according to the agreement.

A few days after the ceasefire began, Hamas executed eight people in a square in Gaza, according to several media outlets. The people belonged to armed clans and groups that do not want Hamas to have power in Gaza.

But since the ceasefire came into effect, there have been reports that Hamas has executed members of armed local clans in the open streets of Gaza, including: CNN Hamas claims that the people killed are “collaborators and criminals” who “spied for Israel.”

US warning: Planning attack

The US State Department is now warning that Hamas will continue to kill civilians inside Gaza. The alarm comes after the State Department received"credible reports" that Hamas is planning more executions, writes Times of Israel.

" This planned attack on Palestinian civilians would constitute a direct and serious violation of the ceasefire and undermine the significant progress achieved through mediation efforts.", the Ministry of Foreign Affairs writes in a statement.

It does not specify what the attack would look like or which Palestinian civilians Hamas would target.

Hamas's response

Hamas responds on Sunday by denying the accusations, reports Al Jazeera.

" It is entirely consistent with the misleading Israeli propaganda and is used as a pretext for continued crimes and organized aggression against our people under the occupation.,” the terrorist group writes in a statement.

Trump: No other choice

The parts of the ceasefire agreement that the media have seen do not explicitly state that Hamas is not allowed to attack civilians in Gaza, writes the Times of Israel. However, according to the US, a Hamas attack on Gazans would mean that “measures will be taken to protect the people of Gaza and maintain the ceasefire.”

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump said something similar.

" If Hamas continues to kill people in Gaza, we have no choice but to go in and kill them.,” he wrote on Truth Social.
