Criticism of Gustavo Petro's government

The president of the Senate's board of directors, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, accepted that the accusations against Hernán Bermúdez, former secretary of security in Tabasco, have taken their toll and worn down Adán Augusto López.

At a press conference, he said, however, that the Tabasco native's leadership remains intact because he is a great political operator who continues and will continue to do his job as long as there is no conclusive evidence against him and"at this moment I don't see it".

“Look, yes, his leadership, of course. I mean, that doesn't mean it doesn't affect him, it's not like he's made of rubber. Well, of course these campaigns of sting, yes, they are very unpleasant. Of course they wear you down, of course they strain things, because you're a human being,” he said.

And he assured that he will continue coordinating with the Tabasco native, because their roles in the Senate cover different, but highly complementary, tasks:"We have been very effective."

Why is Hernán Bermúdez wanted?

Hernán Bermúdez, former head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection ( SSPC ) of Tabasco, during the government of Adán Augusto López, is wanted to be held accountable to the authorities for allegedly leading the organized crime gang known as La Barredora.

The former official has had an arrest warrant issued for him since February of this year. The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) even requested the intervention of the FGR to issue a red notice to Interpol allowing for his capture.

Noroña points to a media campaign against López Hernández

In this context, Noroña considered that we should wait for the case to be processed and Bermúdez's responsibility to be defined in order to know if Adán Augusto bears any responsibility.

In this regard, he insisted that there is a media campaign that seeks to establish legal responsibility on López Hernández without any evidence against him.

" If one of your officials makes a mistake, then you're going to have to bear some of the political responsibility. Criminal liability is a different story. There has to be evidence against you, a minimum of knowledge, not to mention whether there were elements of complicity or collusion. I believe, I insist, that there is a campaign, an obvious campaign," he stressed.

He even questioned the media's handling of the importance of the criminal gang that Bermúdez supposedly led “Let's see, who had ever heard of La Barredora?”.

"García Luna is in prison, confessed, and sentenced. In other words, it will take a while for that to happen with this other official and for there to be real evidence to determine whether there is liability, not political but legal, on the part of comrade Adán Augusto López Hernández. So I believe they are clearly committing a lynching," he stated.
