Trump's Statements on Russia and Ukraine

Tensions have escalated between the US and Russia: The US President ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to the region. He justified this with"highly provocative statements" by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Dorothea Schupelius reports from Washington.

US President Donald Trump has announced the stationing of two nuclear submarines after a verbal exchange with former Russian President and Putin confidant Dmitry Medvedev.

Following the verbal altercation with former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, US President Donald Trump has reportedly deployed two nuclear-powered submarines. He announced this on his online service"Truth Social." He ordered them to be "positioned in the appropriate regions in case these foolish and inflammatory statements prove to be more than just empty words." He did not provide any further details about the planned locations of the submarines.

Words are"very important and can often have unintended consequences," Trump wrote. He hoped this would not be one of those examples.

There is currently no Russian statement available.

Trump had given Putin a 50-day deadline to end the war in Ukraine in mid-July and shortened it to ten or twelve days on Monday.

Medvedev had described Trump's ultimatum to end the war in Ukraine as a"step toward war." He later wrote that Trump, whom he called"Grandpa," had no right to dictate to Russia when it should negotiate.

Trump had also declared that he wanted to impose at least 25 percent tariffs and a"penalty" on India because of its trade relations with Russia, and called both economies dead. Medvedev responded that the US president should remember the danger of zombies when philosophizing about the death of the Indian and Russian economies.
