Javier Milei canceled his trip to Madrid, where he was scheduled to participate in the"Viva Europa 2025" event organized by Vox. He also canceled a class at IE University. The decision reinforces the political impact of the Buenos Aires elections.
The President suspended his participation in the "Viva Europa 2025" event following his electoral defeat in Buenos Aires. He also canceled a scheduled class at IE University in Madrid.
Javier Milei canceled his planned trip to Spain this Friday, where he was scheduled to participate in the"Viva Europa 2025" event, organized by the far-right Vox party. According to sources from the Foreign Ministry, the decision was linked to the domestic political landscape following the ruling party's defeat in the province of Buenos Aires.
The president was scheduled to arrive in Madrid to first give a class at IE University, one of Spain's most renowned private institutions, and then participate in the meeting bringing together European far-right leaders such as Santiago Abascal, Marine Le Pen, and Viktor Orbán. However, the entire agenda was canceled.
The Vox event, which Milei participated in in 2024 during his first visit to Spain as president, was shaping up to be the main political event of the trip. In the previous edition, the president had given a speech in which he attacked socialism, which generated diplomatic tensions with Pedro Sánchez's government.
During her previous visits to Madrid, Milei combined political and business meetings with academic and media activities, as well as meetings with leaders such as Abascal and Madrid President Isabel Díaz Ayuso. She also had dinner with economist Martín Varsavsky and a meeting with coach Diego Simeone.
Relations with the Spanish government have remained frozen since the diplomatic clash in 2024, when the Argentine president attacked Pedro Sánchez's wife, Begoña Gómez, at a Vox event. Since then, visits to Madrid have been limited to private or partisan activities, with no official status.
