Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday that he has nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, praising his efforts to promote peace efforts in several regions.

Netanyahu's announcement came at the start of a joint dinner at the White House, where Trump presented a copy of the letter he had sent to the Nobel Committee.

"Your nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize is well-deserved, and you should receive it," Netanyahu told the cameras, describing Trump as a leader"making peace at this moment, from one country to another and from one region to another."

Trump responded,"Thank you very much. That this comes from you means a lot to me."

The United States is considered Israel's most important ally.
