Putin says he is ready to meet Zelensky in Moscow

Wednesday, September 3

Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that he is ready to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Moscow.

At the same time, he expressed his satisfaction with the work of the Russian negotiators and especially with the head of the Russian delegation, Kremlin advisor Vladimir Medinsky, adding that Russia is ready for consultations at a higher level if necessary.

"If common sense prevails, then we can agree on an acceptable way to end the conflict. Otherwise, we will be forced to solve the problem by military means," the Russian president said.

Putin argued that Russia is not fighting for Ukrainian territory, but for people's rights, while he reiterated that he is opposed to the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO.

He commented that if Ukraine wants to make progress, it should lift martial law, hold elections, and hold a referendum on territorial issues.

At another point, he mentioned that Russian forces are advancing on all fronts, while he assessed that Ukraine is not capable of carrying out a large-scale offensive.

He described his visit to China as positive, welcoming the understandings reached with various countries.

In closing, he commented that the American president has a sense of humor, referring to Trump's claim that Putin had conspired with Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un against the United States.

As he said, all the countries with which Russia had talks in China supported the Russia-US summit in Alaska and expressed hope that the consultations would lead to an end to the conflict.

Finally, he clarified that at present, no preparations have begun for a visit by Donald Trump to Russia.
