More military resources beyond the EMU. This is the next step that the president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, is calling for to address the devastating crisis affecting half of Spain, and about which the PP leader assures that the worst is yet to come.

During his visit this Friday to the Advanced Command Post located in the town of Palacios del Sil, León, and alongside the President of Castile and León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, Feijóo praised the work of the Military Emergency Unit (UME). He stated that they are doing an exceptional job, but believes we need more.

We are facing an unprecedented situation, a national crisis and the worst is yet to come, if there is no change in the weather, the president of the Popular Party analyzed.

Therefore, he believes the Army should be asked to deploy its operational and logistical forces beyond this unit to assist with evacuations, to supply residents when authorities are overwhelmed, and to monitor the perimeters. He has also requested the deployment of heavy machinery, air transport, and engineering assistance.

Specifically, the PP president requested that heavy machinery be activated, with bulldogs and backhoes, amphibious vehicles and aerial resources to facilitate the transport of brigades from one community to another or within the same autonomous region.

We're not at the end of the wildfire season, but at the beginning. We can't assume that we can control the situation with our current capabilities, Feijóo said.

Within the framework of this demand, the requests made this Friday by two regional presidents of her party from regions affected by the fires could be understood. The president of the Regional Government of Extremadura, María Guardiola, announced that she had conveyed to the regional government representative the need for more air resources. For his part, the president of Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, also requested more resources for his community in light of the complicated situation caused by the fires.

However, Defense Minister Margarita Robles demanded rigor from Feijóo and attributed his request to ignorance and improvisation. Robles argued that the Spanish military has participated in 27 fires since August 1, with 1,400 members of the UME and another 2,000 in logistics work. While some talk, others risk their lives to save people, the minister criticized.

The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska, after presiding over the Cecod (State Committee for Coordination and Management of the State Emergency Plan) at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Civil Protection on Friday, assured that the national resources available at this time are sufficient, although he opened the door to asking for more help from Europe.

With this request, the Popular Party appears to be taking as a model the response to the tragic incident in Valencia last year. On that occasion, some 8,000 troops were deployed simultaneously at the worst possible time. These included members of the UME (Union of the Army of the Army), the three Armies, and the Royal Guard.

Beyond this request, Feijóo called on Pedro Sánchez's government to implement state policy regarding the fires and to abandon the shady policy of rude tweets.

For his part, the Prime Minister, after many days of silence, and two days after King Felipe VI did so, has contacted by telephone the regional presidents affected by this crisis, such as Rueda and Guardiola, who have asked for more resources. Until now, Sánchez had limited himself to posting messages on social media, and the PP had accused him of isolating himself in Lanzarote.
