Russia and Iran signed a"comprehensive partnership agreement" in January of this year, cementing their close strategic alliance, although the agreement does not stipulate that either country will have to defend the other if one of them is attacked.
Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday that Russia strongly condemns the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
"The irresponsible decision to launch missile and bomb attacks on the territory of a sovereign state is a blatant violation of international law, the UN Charter and UN Security Council resolutions, regardless of the reasons on which it is based," the aggressor state's ministry said in a statement.
"We call for an end to the attacks and greater efforts to create conditions that would allow the situation to return to a political and diplomatic course," the ministry said in a statement.
It has already been reported that Israel launched a military operation on June 13, striking Iranian nuclear facilities and other military targets, and Iran responded with missile strikes on Israel. Since then, mutual attacks have continued.
On Sunday, the US entered the conflict by striking three Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Isfahan and Natanz.
Following the US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, many world leaders urged a resumption of talks and work to prevent the outbreak of a wider armed conflict.
