The talks lasted three hours.

Neither Putin nor Vitkoff made any public statements after the talks.

The Kremlin announced that during the meeting with Vitkoff,"signals were passed" to Trump and from Trump to Putin.

"Some signals were sent from our side, especially on the issue of Ukraine. Corresponding signals have also been received from President Trump," Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters.

He indicated that the Kremlin would refrain from further detailed comments before Witkoff reports to the US president on the results of the talks.

Witkoff arrived in Moscow two days before the expiration of Trump's ultimatum to Putin.

The US president has demanded that the Russian dictator agree to a ceasefire by August 8, threatening to impose tariffs on buyers of Russian oil if he fails to do so.
