The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, received today, Monday, Alexander Zuev, the new Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco.
A statement issued by the General Directorate of National Security and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance indicated that the two sides discussed the challenges arising from the escalating risks of terrorist threats in various hotspots around the world, particularly in the Sahel and Sahara region, the Horn of Africa, Syria and Afghanistan, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation and mutual assistance between Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism in the field of preventing and combating the risks of violent extremism.
The two sides also reviewed ways to coordinate counter-terrorism initiatives at the regional and international levels, and mechanisms to expand them to include areas of joint cooperation in the field of securing major sporting events in the face of terrorist risks and threats.

The statement explained that the new Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism expressed his desire to learn about the Moroccan security experience in the field of counter-terrorism, which he considered important and necessary to strengthen international cooperation to combat terrorist organizations and ensure that they are deprived of any safe haven, rear bases, sources of funding, or sources of recruitment and radicalization.
The statement concluded that this meeting, which falls within the framework of the commitment of the General Directorate of National Security and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance to promote and strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanisms in the security field, embodies the growing importance of the Kingdom of Morocco as a key and reliable partner in international initiatives and UN efforts to combat terrorism and extremism.
