Shocking news to the international football world! Diogo Jota, a star of the English Premier League Liverpool team and the Portuguese national team, died in a car accident in northwestern Spain today (3rd). He was 28 years old. His 26-year-old brother André Silva was also in the car. Both of them died unfortunately.
The British BBC reported that Lotta was in an accident while traveling with his family. He had just married his childhood sweetheart of 13 years two weeks ago and they have three children. Lotta joined Liverpool in September 2020 for a transfer fee of more than 40 million pounds and won the Premier League title with Liverpool last season.
The report pointed out that the car that the Lotta brothers were riding in caught fire and burned to ashes after the accident. When the paramedics arrived at the scene, the two were already dead, and their identities were confirmed by their driving documents.
Lotta left behind a record of 395 appearances and 133 goals in his career, including one Premier League title, one FA Cup title and one League Cup title for Liverpool. In the national team, he played 49 games, scored 14 goals and helped Portugal win the UEFA Nations League title in June this year.
Rest in peace, Diogo Jota.
