Russia's Reaction to Trump's Policy

Alleged Trump-Zelensky Conversation

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, quoted by Fox News.

"This is important. So today, if you're in Beijing, Delhi or Brazil and you know they're coming, you might want to call Putin and say, 'Hey buddy, we're still buying from you, but you have to seriously negotiate a ceasefire or a peace agreement, or we're going to get secondary sanctions,'" he said.

On Monday, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose 100% secondary tariffs on Russia's trading partners if a peace deal in Ukraine is not reached within the next 50 days.

The White House explained that the US president intends to impose 100% tariffs on Russia and secondary sanctions on countries that buy oil from Russia if an agreement is not reached within 50 days.

China, India, Brazil and Turkey are currently Russia's largest trading partners.

US Senator Lindsey Graham's proposal is even harsher - to impose a 500% tariff on Russia and its partners.

Weapons for Ukraine, sanctions for Russia

Donald Trump met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House on Monday evening.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump threatened Russia with new tariffs if it does not reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine within 50 days.

He said he would impose"severe tariffs" of "about 100 percent," which he called "secondary tariffs," if no deal was reached within 50 days. Trump said he was"very unhappy" with Moscow's performance.

Speaking about potential tariffs on Russia, Trump said that secondary tariffs on Russia could be imposed without the approval of either the House of Representatives or the Senate.

When asked about calls for a 500 percent tariff on Russia, he said that after a certain point, that number would be irrelevant and that 100 percent tariffs would serve the purpose.

The US president says he felt like he had made a deal with Russia “about four times” over the war in Ukraine. “And here we are still talking. I thought we should have made a deal a long time ago, but it just keeps going on and on,” he says.

Trump said he wanted the war in Ukraine to end, adding that he was"disappointed" with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"So if I were Vladimir Putin today and you were talking about what you plan to do in 50 days and about this report, I would reconsider whether I should take the negotiations on Ukraine more seriously than I do at the moment," said NATO Secretary General Rutte.

The US president said the US makes the best equipment, the best missiles and “the best of everything.” He said the US would send weapons to NATO, adding that “they will pay for them.”

“We are going to make top-notch weapons” and send them to NATO. Then NATO will send them where they are needed, the US president said. NATO chief Rutte said Trump had made the decision to allow Ukraine to maintain its defenses against Russia, adding that the Europeans would pay for it. Trump said it was “perfectly logical.”

Rutte said this was based on the huge success of the NATO summit, adding that the Europeans were “taking action.” The NATO chief assured that Ukraine could receive “a truly enormous amount of military equipment” for air defense, as well as missiles and ammunition.

Trump emphasized that billions of dollars worth of military equipment will now be distributed to Ukraine."The Ukrainians continue to fight with extraordinary courage, but they are losing equipment," the US president said.

NATO chief Rutte intervened, saying Russia was bombing cities not for “military purposes” but to create panic. Trump was asked whether Patriot missiles or Patriot batteries were being sent to Ukraine. “That’s it. That’s all,” he replied. The president elaborated that countries would send their Patriot batteries to Ukraine, and the United States would send replacements from those countries.
