The number of dead in the attack on the Chernihiv region has increased

The number of injured as a result of a Russian rocket attack on a humanitarian demining mission in the Chernihiv region has increased to eight, Ukrainian Pravda reports.

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) reported that two of their colleagues were killed in the attack, while eight other staff members were injured. The organization emphasized that its priority is to provide emergency medical assistance to the wounded and support the families of the dead.

At the time of the attack, DRC teams were engaged exclusively in civilian activities - clearing mines from the area to restore access to infrastructure, agricultural land and housing.

"This attack on a civilian humanitarian operation is a serious violation of international humanitarian law. Aid workers, as well as the people they help, must never be targeted while doing this vital work."

The DRC called on all parties to respect international law and ensure the safety of humanitarian workers. The organization said that despite the risks, its teams would continue demining operations to prevent further casualties.

On the afternoon of September 4, the Air Force issued a ballistic missile threat warning from the north. Local authorities later confirmed that the attack targeted members of a humanitarian demining mission. At that time, it was reported that two people were killed and three were injured.
