Local authorities in the Safi region reported that, in an updated tally of human losses resulting from the heavy thunderstorms that hit the region on Sunday evening, and the resulting exceptional flash floods within a short period of time, the death toll has risen to 14 so far.
According to the same source, 32 injured people were admitted to the hospital, most of whom left after receiving the necessary first aid and treatments, while the remaining cases are still under medical observation.
The public authorities and all sectors and stakeholders continue their comprehensive mobilization in order to continue the search for possible missing persons, field intervention and securing the affected areas, and providing the necessary support and assistance to the population affected by this exceptional situation.
On Sunday evening, the Safi region witnessed exceptional flash floods caused by severe thunderstorms, which, within a short period of time not exceeding one hour, led to serious human and material losses.
The city of Safi experienced multiple material damages, represented by the flooding of nearly 70 houses and shops in the old city, especially in Bir Anzaran Street and Abu Al-Dahab Square.
The floods also swept away about 10 cars, and damaged the road section linking Safi and the center of the Ahraara commune on Regional Road 2300, which led to the interruption of traffic on several axes at the city level.
