Several dead in train accident

A passenger train has derailed near the town of Zwiefaltendorf, about 85 kilometers south of the metropolis of Stuttgart, in southwestern Germany.

Several people have died in the train accident, security sources told the German news agency DPA.

The train accident occurred on Sunday around 6:10 p.m.

The German newspaper Bild reported Sunday evening that federal police forces were on their way to the scene of the accident. Several carriages are said to have derailed from the train tracks. Firefighters are at the scene.

According to Bild, screams can be heard from the train, while fire crews are working frantically to help trapped passengers.

A spokesperson for the responsible federal police tells the newspaper that two carriages from a local express train have derailed.
