Trump Administration's Stance on Ukraine Peace Deal

European Response and Skepticism

The eldest son of the President of the United States, Donald Trump Jr., left open the possibility at a conference in Doha that his father, US President Donald Trump, could abandon his plan for peace in Ukraine, standing up from the negotiating table aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war. The president's son sharply criticized the Ukrainian president and EU policy: he sees political and economic interests behind the continuation of the war in Ukraine, claiming that European sanctions are not achieving their goal either.

Donald Trump Jr., the son of the US President, has said the US could end its support for the war effort in Ukraine, The Guardian reported. The US president's eldest son has reportedly made speculative comments in his"rants" against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the European Union.

At a Middle East conference, the US president's son gave a lengthy speech about how Ukraine's"corrupt" rich had fled their country, leaving behind"what they believed was the peasantry" to fight the war. Trump Jr. claimed that

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is prolonging the war because he knows he would never win an election if it ended.

He said the Ukrainian president was considered a god on the left, but argued that Ukraine was far more corrupt than Russia. He criticized Kaja Kallas, the European Union's foreign policy chief, saying that European sanctions were not working because they had raised the price of oil, which Russia could use to finance its war. The European plan, he said, was:"We'll wait until Russia goes bankrupt - that's not a plan."

Donald Trump Jr. said he met only three people during the 2022 campaign who ranked the war in Ukraine among his top ten issues. He said the threat of fentanyl being shipped to the United States by Venezuelan ships is “far more clear and immediate than anything that’s happening in Ukraine or Russia.”

He considers his father the most unpredictable politician who can walk away from the ruling

The son of the US president claimed, without evidence, that on a single day in Monaco this summer, he observed that 50 percent of supercars, such as Bugattis and Ferraris, had Ukrainian license plates. “Do you think they got this in Ukraine?” he asked.

We hear the rumors of what's going on here when we see that all the license plates in Monaco are Ukrainian. [...] The rich fled and left behind what they thought was the peasant class to fight these wars. They had no reason to stop because as long as the money train came and they were stealing, no one checked anything, so there was no reason for peace

— he stressed. When asked if it was possible that his father — who ran on the promise of bringing peace to Ukraine — would simply walk away, Trump Jr. said maybe, indicating that his father is one of the most unpredictable men in politics. He vowed that the United States would no longer be “the idiot with the checkbook.”
