Hervé Renard

The former coach of the Atlas Lions, now in charge of the Saudi Green Falcons, spoke about the Moroccan team at a press conference after the Morocco-Saudi Arabia match on the last day of Group B of the 2025 Arab Cup, played in Qatar.

Defeated 1-0 on Monday, December 8, Saudi Arabia finished the group stage of the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup behind Morocco. Following the match, Hervé Renard didn't hesitate to praise a team he knows better than anyone, having managed them between 2016 and 2019.

I spent three and a half years in this exceptional federation, with a president who had a real vision and who is now reaping the rewards of everything that has been built, he recalled.

Renard then delivered a glowing tribute: Morocco is one of the best teams in the world. They are feared by everyone, even by Brazil, whom you will face in the next World Cup.

As a reminder, the Lions have been drawn into Group C of the 2026 World Cup hosted in the United States, Mexico and Canada, alongside Brazil, Scotland and Haiti.

Having played in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments with Morocco, where their run ended in the quarterfinals in 2017 and the round of 16 in 2019, Hervé Renard also had a word on the 2025 edition, to be hosted by the Kingdom:"I wish you all the best for this AFCON. You are capable of winning it… if I'm counting correctly, 50 years later. Good luck," the French coach remarked.
