Sheinbaum calls last-minute Security Cabinet meeting after violence in Michoacán

Mexico City. Members of the Mexican government's Security Cabinet were summoned at the last minute this Sunday to a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, following the violence of the previous day in Michoacán, which resulted in the murder of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo and lemon farmer Alejandro Torres Mora, nephew of former self-defense leader Hipólito Mora.

Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security, reported this Sunday at 7:34 a.m., on social media, about the meeting to which they were summoned with Sheinbaum Pardo, at 9 a.m.

“We were summoned by President @Claudiashein to @GabSeguridadMX today at 0900 hrs. @SEGOB_mx @Defensamx1 @SEMAR_mx @SSPCMexico @GN_MEXICO_,” the secretary posted.

Yesterday, the federal Security Cabinet reported via the same channel that: “As a result of an attack that occurred this afternoon in the center of Uruapan, Michoacán, where unfortunately the municipal president Carlos Manzo lost his life, two people involved in the events were arrested and one of the attackers lost his life.

“Authorities from the Michoacán State Government and the Security Cabinet are securing the area and maintaining patrols to ensure the safety of the population. This crime will not go unpunished.”
