The Safi region witnessed exceptional flash floods this Sunday evening, caused by severe thunderstorms, which, within a short period of time not exceeding one hour, led to serious human and material losses.

Local authorities reported that the provisional toll resulted in 7 deaths, while 20 other people were rescued and are currently receiving medical care at Mohammed V Hospital in the city.

In terms of material losses, the city of Safi experienced multiple damages, represented by the flooding of nearly 70 houses and shops in the old city, especially in Bir Anzaran Street and Abu Al-Dahab Square.

The floods also swept away about 10 cars, and damaged the road section linking Safi and the center of the Ahraara commune on Regional Road 2300, which led to the interruption of traffic on several axes at the city level.

In response to this exceptional situation, the public authorities and all relevant sectors have initiated various emergency measures, with a comprehensive mobilization of logistical means and human resources, to ensure immediate intervention and assistance to affected citizens.

These efforts include searching for possible missing persons and restoring road networks and essential service networks in the region.

Local authorities confirmed that work is still underway to assess the full extent of the damage and to provide support and assistance to citizens whose homes or businesses have been damaged, while ensuring everyone's safety in these harsh weather conditions.
