Western troops could be sent to Ukraine without Russia's consent after fighting in the country ends, The New York Times reported, citing analysts.

Other sources for the newspaper noted that Moscow would not have agreed to conclude a peace agreement if the possibility of deploying troops remained in force.

On August 20, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated that Russia does not accept the deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine under the guise of peacekeepers. A similar option for security guarantees was discussed by French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other leaders of the coalition of the willing, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at a joint online meeting on August 17.

On August 19, Bloomberg wrote that 10 countries have already announced that they are ready to send troops to Ukraine as part of a peace agreement. At the same time, the Politico publication noted the following day that it would be difficult for Great Britain and France to implement this plan, including from an economic point of view.
