Among the participants are leaders from Great Britain, France and Germany.

Friedrich Mertz adjusted his schedule to join the conversation.

European leaders are expected to hold urgent talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about US-Russian peace plans.

Bloomberg reports that a number of European leaders - including Britain's Keir Starmer, France's Emmanuel Macron and Germany's Friedrich Merz - are expected to join an emergency phone call with Zelensky at noon European time to discuss the US-Russia proposal to end the war.

A further meeting is expected on the sidelines of the G20 summit in South Africa on Saturday, Bloomberg reported.

Meeting ended

A spokesman for the German chancellor has just confirmed that Mertz, Macron and Starmer spoke with Ukrainian President Zelensky.

The statement, published in German, said that the leaders confirmed their"unwavering and full support for Ukraine on the path to a lasting and just peace."

The leaders also "welcomed US efforts to end the war in Ukraine," including proposals to assert Ukraine's sovereignty and provide "robust" security guarantees, and intend to continue"close coordination" on the issue.

But they also noted that they would"continue to pursue the goal of protecting vital European and Ukrainian interests in the long term," stressing that the current line of contact should serve "as a starting point" for any territorial discussion.

But, crucially, they also noted that any peace agreement"affecting European states, the European Union or NATO requires the approval of European partners or consensus among allies".

Zelenski announced after talks with European leaders

Ukraine and European countries will coordinate work to ensure that the country's"principled" positions are included in US President Donald Trump's peace plan to end the war in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

Elysée Palace: Macron spoke with Zelensky, Mertz and Starmer about Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron discussed Ukraine today with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz about a possible solution to the war in Ukraine, the Elysee Palace announced. They all stressed that the solution for Ukraine"must fully include Ukraine, preserve its sovereignty and guarantee its future security," according to the statement, Reuters reports.

Von der Leyen will talk to Zelensky

According to"The Guardian", the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, could soon talk to Zelensky. The European Commission announced that the EU was not officially informed about the preparation of the plan of the United States of America and Russia to end the war in Ukraine.

The Kremlin's serious threat to Ukraine

The Kremlin said Ukraine should start negotiations to end the war"now" or face the possibility of losing more territory, reports the Guardian.

- The effective work of the Russian armed forces should convince Zelensky: it is better to negotiate and do it now than later. The space for freedom of decision-making is decreasing for him as territories are lost during the offensive actions of the Russian army - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, as quoted by AFP.

It is interesting, as noted by the British newspaper, that Peskov claimed that Moscow had not officially received the American plan.

Kaja Kalas: You cannot reward the aggressor

You cannot reward the aggressor, because that invites more aggression, warned the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Callas.

Speaking on the sidelines of the EU-Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum, Callas also emphasized that"any peace to be sustainable must have certain elements."

- If you just give in to aggression, then you are inviting more aggression and that is dangerous. This is dangerous, not only for us in Europe, but also for our Indo-Pacific partners, because all those countries in the neighborhood that might have an appetite for the territories of their neighbors will learn that it is okay, that it pays off. And this is a very dangerous moment for everyone - she says.

Alleged US plan leaked: An attack on Ukraine will be an attack on NATO?!

US President Donald Trump's peace plan for Ukraine allegedly includes security guarantees modeled after Article 5 of NATO, which would oblige the US and European allies to treat an attack on Ukraine as an attack on the entire"transatlantic community". This is stated in the alleged draft of the plan obtained by"Axios".

It states that any future"significant, deliberate and sustained armed attack" by Russia against Ukraine "will be considered an attack threatening the peace and security of the transatlantic community" and that the US and its allies will respond accordingly, including with military force. The document contains signature lines for Ukraine, USA, EU, NATO and Russia.

The security guarantees would be for an initial period of ten years and could be renewed by mutual consent.

Mertz will talk to Trump and Zelensky

The German tabloid"Bild" reports that Mertz is expected to hold a telephone conversation not only with Zelensky, but also with US President Donald Trump.

Reuters also confirmed that Mertz pulled out of the planned event to free up his schedule to join the phone call.

Let us remind you that the President of the United States of America Trump presented a peace plan for Ukraine and Russia that contains 28 points, which foresees that Ukraine will give up additional territories in the east, limit the army and formally renounce its membership in NATO, Axios announced.

The US plan has caused controversy because, according to reports, it would force Ukraine to make significant concessions.

German Foreign Minister: The US plan for Ukraine is not final

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful said today that he believes the plan supported by the United States of America to end the war in Ukraine is just a list of issues that need urgent consideration between Ukraine and Russia, noting that it is not a final plan.

He stated that he had a long telephone conversation with the US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

- Everything is still in a state of flux, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said that the talks entail compiling a list of topics and options that still need to be considered and discussed - said Wadeful in the show"Hoyt Journal" on the TV channel ZDF.

Wadeful assessed that any effort to bring both sides to the negotiating table is"correct and worthy of support".

- Germany's position is a European position, which means that we support Ukraine. We want to ensure that Ukraine can discuss these issues from a position of strength - said Vadeful, quoted by Tanjug.

Stefanishina: Changing the borders of Ukraine cannot be on the negotiating table with Russia

The story about the possible change of borders and the success of Russia in its aggression is not something acceptable for Ukraine, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States of America, Olga Stefanishyna, said today.

At the Global Women's Summit 2025 in Washington, Stefanishyna emphasized that the territorial integrity of Ukraine and changing the borders of Ukraine cannot be on the negotiating table.

- To say that Ukraine is changing its borders and that Russia is succeeding in its military aggression is not acceptable. Of course, jeopardizing Ukraine's independence and allowing Russia to have an opinion on new aggression is not acceptable - she added, reports Ukrinform.

Stefanishina stressed that"if we are serious about the 28 Russian points, they don't really make sense".

- I think we are confident in ourselves and support the leadership of President (USA) Trump, but I personally worry that the Russians always avoid face-to-face conversation. My biggest fear is that the Russians will continue to delay the process and play tactical games - she said.

US Chargé d'Affaires Julie Davis said earlier that she and US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll held"extremely constructive discussions" with the Ukrainian leadership on Thursday about ending the war.

Von der Leyen: EU will continue to support Ukraine

The European Union will continue to support Ukraine, because Ukraine is a victim of aggression, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said today and pointed out that the sanctions against Russia are causing damage to its economy.

- Ukraine can count on us, because this is not only an aggression against Ukraine, but an aggression against the principles of the UN Charter - Von der Leyen said in a speech in Johannesburg, where she is attending the G20 summit, reports Reuters.

According to her, the EU has introduced 19 packages of sanctions and they are having an effect.

- This can be seen when you look at the growing problems of the Russian economy - galloping inflation, rising interest rates and an overheated war economy. Slowly but surely, the data show that the sanctions are working - emphasized Von der Leyen.

The first G-20 summit on the African continent is being held in Johannesburg.
