US Aid to Ukraine

General News Coverage

In a particularly tense moment, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a lengthy, hour-long phone conversation on Thursday. According to Yuri Ushakov, a Kremlin adviser, the conversation focused on international issues with an emphasis on Iran, the Middle East, Ukraine and Syria. But despite the warm atmosphere, there was no agreement to meet in person.

Putin calls for diplomatic solution for Iran

As reported by the Russian agency, Putin stressed the need to resolve the crisis around Iran exclusively through diplomatic channels. In the conversation, it seems that both sides acknowledged the complexity of the situation in the Middle East, while agreeing on the importance of dialogue and de-escalation.

Hard line on Ukraine: Russia is not backing down

On the Ukrainian front, Trump reportedly raised the issue of an immediate ceasefire, but Putin reiterated the Kremlin's consistent positions. As Ushakov stated, the Russian president assured Trump that Moscow continues to seek a negotiated solution, but made it clear that it will not back down from its strategic goals. These, according to the official Russian briefing, include eliminating the causes that led to the conflict.

Open channel for Syria and Istanbul

The two leaders also touched on Syria, with a shared intention – as reported – to continue the dialogue to find solutions to the long-standing conflict. Putin briefed Trump on the implementation of the Istanbul agreements, but made no mention of a possible third round of negotiations. Nevertheless, the Kremlin appears ready to continue the discussions.

Not a word about weapons and a summit meeting

According to the Kremlin, the issue of suspending US military aid to Ukraine was not raised, and the two men did not discuss a possible private meeting. However, they agreed to keep a channel of communication open, with Ushakov noting that peace talks on Ukraine are taking place between Moscow and Kiev and that the US understands this.

Viral Putin resignation: Don't keep him waiting

Meanwhile, a clip from a conference in Russia has gone viral, in which Putin abruptly left, saying he didn't want to keep Trump waiting because he might misunderstand. The remark drew laughter and applause from those present, capturing the Russian president's unique communication style and his willingness to present his contact with Trump as a sign of international influence.
