The three countries issued a joint statement, reaching an immediate ceasefire effective midnight tonight. At 7 a.m. on July 29, the military commanders from both sides will meet, indicating that this is the first step in reducing tension and restoring peace and stability.

On July 28, 2025, reporters reported that the governments of Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand issued a joint statement after a special meeting held in Putrajaya, Malaysia. Chaired by Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and ASEAN Chair, as the host and observer, along with Samdech Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior in the capacity of Acting Prime Minister of Thailand. The United States co-hosted the meeting, and the People's Republic of China actively participated to promote a peaceful resolution of the situation.

Samdech Hun Manet and Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai have expressed their stance and intention to immediately cease fire and return to normalcy. Earlier, US President Donald Trump contacted the leaders of both countries to call for a peaceful solution. China has also been in close contact with Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and related countries to promote negotiations, cease fire and restore peace. The participation and cooperation of all parties reflects the common commitment to peace, dialogue and stability in the region.

Both Cambodia and Thailand have reached the following mutual understanding  :

1. An immediate and unconditional ceasefire, effective from 24:00 (local time) on July 28, 2025, is an important first step towards resolving the situation and restoring peace and stability.

2. Organizing an informal meeting among the commanders of the regional forces, including

  • The 1st and 2nd Army Regions of Thailand and the 4th and 5th Army Regions of Cambodia will take place at 07.00 on 29 July 2025.
  • There will then be a meeting with the Defense Attaches, hosted by the ASEAN Chair, if both parties mutually agree.

3. The holding of the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on August 4, 2025, hosted by Cambodia

Malaysia, as the current Chair of ASEAN, is ready to coordinate the establishment of an observer team to monitor and ensure compliance with the ceasefire agreement. Both sides also agreed to restore direct communication channels between the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Defense Minister of each country.

“This meeting reaffirms the shared determination of Malaysia, Cambodia and Thailand to uphold international law, peaceful coexistence and multilateral cooperation in seeking a just and sustainable solution to the current situation.”

On this occasion, Mr. Phumtham, Acting Prime Minister, expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Chinese government, and the President of the United States for expressing their goodwill and concern. The discussion reflected Thailand’s desire to find a peaceful solution while preserving the sovereignty and lives of its people. Both sides agreed to ceasefire with measures to ensure that the ceasefire agreement would be carried out honestly by both sides. Meanwhile, the Cambodian Prime Minister announced that he agreed to ceasefire immediately at midnight tonight.
