The stakes are high! — Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social page on Friday before leaving for Alaska. Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage at 9:30 p.m. CET to discuss a possible end to the war in Ukraine.

The summit will be held at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base. In theory, the politicians will first meet face-to-face, then continue the negotiations with the participation of delegations. The meeting program also includes a joint press conference and a working dinner.

In practice, the meeting may end quickly, at least that's what Trump promised. He said that he would find out in a few minutes whether the meeting made sense, and if he found that it didn't, he would end it very quickly.

The US president boarded his special plane at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C., early Friday morning local time. He waved briefly from the door and then headed toward Alaska.

In the context of ending the war, there has been talk of the United States pushing for a land swap between Ukraine and Russia. On Air Force One, Trump told reporters that he should let Kiev decide on the matter. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stated that Ukraine will not hand over its lands to the occupiers. The Russian Foreign Ministry also issued a statement dismissive of the idea on Wednesday.

Regarding security guarantees for Ukraine, he said that this is a complicated issue. He believes that this can be achieved in cooperation with European countries, but not under the auspices of NATO.

According to the Moscow Times, three Russian planes have already landed in Anchorage. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is already on site. He reportedly paid his respects at the air base wearing a CCCP T-shirt.
